Hansika Motwani is a South Indian actress and model born on 9 August 1991, in Mumbai, Maharashtra. She began her acting career with television making her debut in the Star Plus series Shakalaka Boom Boom. She later appeared in the Telugu film Desamuduru (2007) and won the Favourite Child Award at the Star Parivaar Oscars. In Bollywood, she debuted in the lead role of Aap Ka Suroor (2007), but the film was mediocre. In 2008, she appeared in Kannada films Bindaas and Kantri (2008). In 2011, she made her Tamil film debut, appearing in three productions. Her first release, Mappillai, was met with criticism but was deemed a box office success. In 2014, she starred in four Tamil films, including Theeya Velai Seiyyanum Kumaru and Singam 2. In 2015, she had a poor year, with four out of her five films having terrible box office results.

Hansika's involvement with the acting industry began with television. Hansika made her television debut in the Star Plus series Shakalaka Boom Boom when she was young. Then After that, she starred in the television series Desh Main Nikla Hoga Chand and took home the Star Parivaar Oscar for Favourite Child. She made her acting debut in the film Koi Mil Gaya (2003), with Hrithik Roshan and Preity Zinta.


Hansika received her first main part in the Puri Jagannadh-directed Telugu film Desamuduru (2007), four years after she made her debut in a feature film. The critics praised her outstanding performance, and she was awarded the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut - South. The young actress debuted in Bollywood that same year in the lead role of Aap Ka Suroor (2007), starring Himesh Reshammiya. But the film was just a mediocre hit, and Hansika was unable to duplicate her triumph in the South. Hansika continued to play with many fields in 2008, she made her next appearance in the Kannada film Bindaas. The actress then starred in Kantri (2008), a Telugu film that grossed more than average.


Hansika made her debut in the Tamil film business in 2011 and appeared in three productions. Her first release of the year Mappillai her first Tamil film costarring Dhanush, was met with criticism review at the box office. It was deemed a box office success anyway. Engeyum Kadhal, her second film of the year, did not do well at the box office. But the actress had a successful year-end. Velayudham, her third film, was a big success. For the first moment in her career, Hansika played a villain, and the reviewers gave her favourable reviews.


The actress appeared in a Telugu and Tamil film the next year; the Tamil film was a romantic comedy called Oru Kal Oru Kannadi. Both reviewers and viewers gave the film high marks, and it became an immediate hit. Along with receiving praise, she was nominated for her first Filmfare Best Actress award for her role opposite Vishnu Manchu in the Telugu film Dhenikaina Ready. The actress starred in four Tamil films in 2014, including the highly popular Theeya Velai Seiyyanum Kumaru directed by Sundar C and Hari's Singam 2.


Hansika continued to have success the next year, appearing in three hugely popular films. Two Telugu films were Pandavulu Pandavulu Thummeda, a comedy, and Maan Karate, a fantasy movies, and Aranmanai, a horror comedy, both from Tamil. Regarding her performance in Aranmanai, the web blog Sify wrote: "The writer and director have skillfully combined the commercial elements of glamour, horror, and comedy." What works is a captivating performance by Hansika combined with a humorous song by Santhanam & Co., all presented by Sundar C. as a fun programme." Unlike the rest of her career, 2015 was a poor year for the actress, with four of her five films receiving appalling box office receipts.


The only project she completed successfully in 2015 was the action-comedy Tamil film Vaalu, in which Silambarasan plays the lead. The actress debuted in 2016 with a role in the Tamil comedy horror Aranmanai 2, a follow-up to the 2014 film of the same name, costarring Sundar C, Siddharth, Trisha Krishnan, and Poonam Bajwa. The movie got mixed reviews when it first came out, but Hansika's outstanding performance earned her a lot of accolades from the critics. 


The Tamil cinema legal thriller Manithan, starring Prakash Raj, Vivek, and Udhayanidhi Stalin, came next. Manithan, a 2013 Bollywood film reimagined, opened to positive reviews. It was based on Jolly LLB. Together with Mohanlal, Manju Warrier, and Vishal, Hansika made her screen debut in the 2017 Malayalam movie Villain. The movie had a mediocre box office performance after receiving mixed reviews. In 2018, Hansika released two films: the action thriller Thuppakki Munai, starring Vikram Prabhu, and the gangster comedy Gulaebaghavali, costarring Prabhu Deva. However, neither of these films had a significant influence on reviewers or audiences.
